Laparoscopic Varicocelectomy

A varicocele is an enlargement of the veins within the loose bag of skin that holds your testicles (scrotum). A varicocele is similar to a varicose vein you might see in your leg. Varicocelesare a common cause of low sperm production and decreased sperm quality, which can cause infertility. It is dilatation or tortuosity of pampiniform plexus or the veins of the testis.. When avaricocele develops in your scrotum, it can block blood flow to the rest of your reproductive system. The scrotum is the sac that contains your testicles. Because blood can't return to your heart through these veins, blood pools in the scrotum and the veins become abnormally large. This can decrease your sperm count. There are no drugs to treat or prevent varicoceles. But pain killers (such as acetaminophen or ibuprofen) may help with pain. When needed, surgery is the main form of treatment. Embolization (briefly blocking the veins) is a non-surgicaltreatment option.Varicocelectomy is a surgery performed to remove those enlarged veins. The procedure is done to restore proper blood flow to your reproductive organs. Normally surgeons are doing open surgery for this procedure. But internationally and major centers in India including ours are offering laparoscopic approach for treatment of varicocelectomy. Dr Tarun Agarwal has also a paper published in journal for laparoscopic management of varicocele. Link
